CHAPTER 6

Alan scooted over in surprise as Pete slid onto the bench seat in the restaurant’s deep booth. He fidgeted with the menu as he watched the reaction of the nearby diners. Everyone talked to the people at their table or with the servers. Only one woman made eye contact with him as she looked around the rustic restaurant. When she smiled and continued her study of the western cowboy décor, Alan relaxed against the leather seatback.

“I can go sit over there, if you want,” Pete’s deep voice rumbled beside him, recapturing Alan’s attention.

“No.” Alan turned to look at the man who’d just made love to him. With his mind totally blown, Alan tried to process what was happening. “I mean, I like being close to you.”

“I need to be close to you, Little boy. This place is accepting. You don’t have to worry about anyone judging you. Do you think anyone from your hometown will be here?”

“It’s too far to come for dinner.” Alan dismissed that thought. “I’m just new to this,” he gestured between their chests.

“Tell me about it,” Pete teased.

A movement beside them drew their attention. They turned to look at the server when she placed a basket of rolls with butter in front of them.

“Hi! We always come at the worst time,” she joked with a smile. “I’m Kimberly. Do you know what you’d like to drink, or should I come back?”

“Bring us both a beer. Whatever you have on tap,” Pete declared.

“We have a new craft beer tonight that everyone is raving about,” she suggested.

“Perfect.”

“Pint?” the server offered.

“That will be great.”

“Two pints of Love Potion No. 9.5,” she said with a smile before turning to leave.

“That’s appropriate,” Pete observed with a laugh.

“Daddy,” Alan whispered in reprimand.

“I love it when you call me that, Little boy.”

Their gazes intertwined as the two men exchanged silently spoken messages. Pete covered Alan’s thigh with his wide hand and squeezed slightly before encouraging, “Let’s have a roll while we look at the menu. Choose something hardy. I know you’re hungry.”

“I am.” He watched Pete select a roll for him and slather butter on it. Just the sight of the golden substance brought back memories. This man created fantasy memories for him and a future of pleasure. Alan leaned over to bump their shoulders together in a silent thanks when Pete set it in front of him.

Quickly, Alan decided on the cheapest item on the menu. Despite the advance and free apartment, he wanted to watch his pennies. His mind wandered back to the life-changing event that had just happened. Alan felt as if his entire life had flipped over to reveal an amazing possibility.

He replayed the aftermath of Pete easing their bodies down to the carpet. The large man had held him tenderly as their breathing slowed. He’d talked to Alan quietly about how wonderfully responsive he was, how good Pete had felt inside him, and how much he cared about him.

When Alan’s stomach had roared in hunger, Pete stood to shuck off his khakis and underwear, still draped around his knees.
