CHAPTER SEVEN

BRIDGET

The distance I thought that would grow between Reid and I never came. Instead love bloomed, a need and desire that neither of us knew how to handle. We slept together every night, and had sex nearly every day, against numerous surfaces in the house.

I never knew sex could feel so good.

I was sitting on the couch, with a container of Chinese, waiting for Reid to come and join me. I could hear him on the phone and knew as soon as he walked out of the room that he was tense and pissed off about something.

“What’s going on?” I questioned as he walked out of the bedroom.

“Your dad’s coming home early.” He spoke through clenched teeth. Sadness pricked at my heart. I wasn’t ready for our time together to come to an end.

“Why?” I placed the takeout box on the small table in front of me and moved towards him. He lifted a hand, stopping my perusal.

“This has to stop here. We can’t risk it anymore.” His eyes lifted to mine, and I knew it hurt him more than he cared to admit.

“We can keep it a secret, we can still do this.” I was pleading, grasping for something that wasn’t there.

“Bridget… stop. It’ll be okay, we discussed this before. It was only sex, and you were okay with that.” His voice was cold, and I felt my heart shatter to my feet. Why was my Father coming home early, and why couldn’t I decide for myself if I wanted to stay here with Reid or not? We still had a month and a half.

“I’ll ask him to stay, and even if he says no, I’m old enough to make my own choices.” I tried not to cry, I held back the tears and swallowed down the knot that had formed in my throat.

He ran his fingers through his dark hair in frustration before lifting his eyes to mine. When he looked at me I always felt warmth, love even, but this time when he looked at me I seen nothing but anger.

“You’re going to go with him, Bridget. You’re not going to draw attention towards something that was merely for fun. I fucked you, you enjoyed it, hell you begged for it, and I did you a favor, since now you don’t have to go off to college with your virginity intact.” He scoffed, and sadness filled me.

“You knew as much as I did that, it was all a lie, just something we told each other to cover up the real feelings we had.” I spoke the words before I could stop myself.

Reid shook his head, “You’re very naïve Bridget, so I’ll make it simple for you since you aren’t understanding.” He crossed the space that separated us, his heavy footfalls echoing throughout my mind.

“There is no us. There is nothing.” He spat the words at me, his tall frame engulfing me, making me feel weak and inferior to him.

I never thought there would come a day where a single bone in my body could ever despise Reid, but right now, I did.
