CHAPTER 11

Sydney

“Hey sleepy head,” I heard Tex’s voice. I blinked again trying to focus. Tex was sitting on the edge of the bed. I looked around. I was still in the hospital; balloons, cards, and teddy bears filled my space. I looked over at Cloe and Ant. They smiled at me. Ant’s right hand was bandaged up, and he had a black eye.

“Where’s Trey?” I asked. They all looked at each other, shock and disappointment on their faces.

“Sydney, come with me,” Cloe requested. She reached out her hand and helped me out of bed. The painkillers wore off, but I felt better than I had when I got there the day before. I mostly slept.

“I’ll call Venetta and tell her you’re awake,” Ant said as Cloe led me to the bathroom. She turned me around so that my back was facing the mirror.

“You need to look at yourself long and hard. When I turn you around, understand Trey did this to you. You may love him, but you should always love yourself more than you love any man. I’ve been very quiet about this whole situation, not saying anything as I have seen you with bruises, but now I feel like I have to say something. It’s time to walk away. You don’t deserve this,” Cloe held my hands.

I swallowed hard squeezing her hands. I was terrified of what my reflection might show. The last time I looked at myself in the mirror was right before I found the condom in the bathroom. I took a deep breath and slowly turned around. I looked at myself then quickly closed my eyes.

“No, no, no, no, no,” I said holding back tears. My throat was tight. I felt sick to my stomach at my appearance.

“Look at yourself Sydney,” Cloe coached.

I inhaled and opened my eyes again. I gasped, as I got a real good look. My nose had a bandage on it that worked as a cast. My bottom lip was swollen and split open. My left cheek was bruised with purple and blue marks that went all the way up to my eye; it was the side that took the most hits. A vessel in my eye popped, and blood stained the majority of my eye. I had scratches on my forehead, and my neck was in a brace. To say I looked bad was an understatement.

I cried leaning on the sink for support. Looking at myself in such a bad condition, I felt truly done with Trey. For a man that is supposed to love and protect you to hit and hurt you like he didn’t even know, you was unacceptable. I was broken. I had reached my breaking point. No more. There was no going back to that.

“Come on,” Cloe, pulled me away. I got back in bed.

“You are still beautiful,” Tex cracked a smile.

“Shut up,” I said wiping my eyes laughing. Tex was such a jokester.

“Your sister is on her way,” Ant informed.

“Are you okay?” I asked Ant concerned

“Says the girl laying in the hospital bed, but I’m fine; just a fractured hand.
