Chapter Nine

She’d fallen asleep in Craig’s bed. Eliza stretched awake, feeling the heat from his body beneath the duvet, and surprised herself by not being surprised.

It was unusual for her to wake in a lover’s bed so many days in a row. Eliza wasn’t sure why she’d let herself get swept up in this lovely-dovey stuff, but she had to admit, she was enjoying it. Shockingly.

Craig was a lot of fun. And they had a lot of fun together. And the sex? Oh, the sex between them was a definite bonus.

Once again, they’d gone out last night for dinner, dancing, drinking. All the things one normally associated with a stay in the Hamptons. Or a date. Craig’s focus had been solely on her, to the point where Eliza forgot there might be other women around who’d once caught his attention.

It’d been happening more and more recently when they were out; Eliza forgot that they weren’t dating and simply enjoyed Craig’s company. And later, once they’d enjoyed each other’s company, they returned to his place and his bed and thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company.

She’d never had a lover like Craig, one so generous and passionate. One who cared if she climaxed before he did. It was refreshing. And dead sexy. That, on top of the sheer fun she had with him, had made these last couple days together different from what she expected.

Rolling out of bed, Eliza gathered her clothes, gently removed the night before instead of tossed around in the heat of passion, and left to get a shower. She still had a couple days left before she had to return to the set, and she wanted to enjoy them all with Craig.

Which was such a turnaround from what she’d thought when she first agreed to stay with Craig instead of at the hotel. Or from what she first thought that night they’d had sex. Or, hell, what she’d always thought in terms of Craig.

Maybe he wasn’t such a playboy bastard after all. Wait, it was thinking like that that lead to changing opinions. Was that smart? If she didn’t keep Craig in a specific column in her life, things would become confused. But was she really blurring the lines? Changing her opinion of this time with Craig?

Quickly showering and dressing, she ignored the dark sky and went downstairs in hopes Craig had started breakfast. She was starved.

Instead of heading straight for the kitchen, Eliza wandered to the front living room. Just as she entered, the storm broke. A hard, vicious rain fell against the glass, thick sheets obscuring the view of the sound.

It was beautiful in its fury and called to her in a way spring storms never did in the city. Something about this storm, the location or the view or the way she and Craig had changed, made the storm currently raging outside the most primal, striking thing she’d ever seen.

“Hungry?” Craig asked as he walked into the room.

Eliza turned and she immediately recognized the electricity between them.
