Chapter Seven
Gypsum woke to the sound of his phone ringing. Growling softly, he carefully lifted his left arm away from his beloved. He slid it out of the sleeping bag he shared with the smaller man and grabbed his jeans, dragging them toward him.
Just the fact that Lucius had managed to fall asleep in his arms not once, but twice... and that Gypsum now only wore a t-shirt and briefs, told him of the progress he’d already made with the shifter. After their nap, they’d enjoyed more hot dogs, and he’d also introduced Lucius to roasted marshmallows. Lucius had loved them and had eaten enough to make two humans sick. Then, they’d curled up together again, chatted for a while, then fallen back to sleep close to the fire.
Camping out together had been a fantastic idea.
I’ll have to thank Luc for it when I see him again.
The whole idea had been for Gypsum to spend time with Lucius away from distractions. Too bad his phone wasn’t cooperating. He should have remembered to silence it.
Gypsum tugged the offending item out of his jeans’ front pocket, all the while doing his best not to move his right arm. He didn’t want to jostle Lucius, who happened to be using it as a pillow. Finally, he managed to get it out and he peered at the screen. He bit back a groan. So much for sending the caller to voicemail.
After connecting the call, Gypsum brought it to his ear. “Hi, Master Jaymes. How’s it going there?”
“Master Jaymes,” Jaymes repeated, his tone teasing. “So formal. What? Did you have to step away from a crowd and needed to make it sound official?”
“No. Sorry, Jaymes,” Gypsum mumbled. “Everyone around here is so damn formal.”
Gypsum sighed and eased back into his prior position with his chest pressed to Lucius’s back. He could tell from the cadence of his shifter’s breathing and the slight tension in his body that he had woken.
After pressing what he hoped Lucius would find a reassuring kiss to the back of his neck, Gypsum continued, “Unfortunately, I hope you’re not asking for a report on how they’re settling in, because you’ll have to ask Clarice for that.”
Jaymes’s tone turned serious as he asked, “Why? What’s going on?”
“I found my beloved,” Gypsum bluntly told his leader. “I’m having a bit of work wooing him.” That caused Lucius to tense even more, so he nuzzled his cheek against the side of his head. “He’s a wonderful, sexy, sweet dingo shifter. Hot as fuck, but you know some of the history of this pack. A lot of the members have had a rough go of it.”
“I remember,” Jaymes responded softly. “Congratulations.”
“Thanks,” Gypsum responded. “I can’t wait for you to meet him. He’s interested in botany and has made healing pastes in the past. Maybe he can come up with some all-natural supplements for our herd so we can make our own,” he said. “He’s finishing up his GED and then he’s going to focus on herbology.
