THIRTEEN

“Here,” Logan says, throwing me a blanket that’s been warmed through from his own body heat. It’s almost like I put the thing in the dryer, it’s so warm.

I frown down at the blanket in my lap, then look at him.

“I didn’t ask for this,” I say.

Logan groans, staring up at the ceiling, elongating the column of his throat.

Unfortunately, he’s this good-looking. Incredibly unfortunate.

“Just take it. I can see you’re cold. And don’t lie about it either.”

I snap my mouth closed. “You don’t have to be so bossy about it,” I hiss, unwinding the blanket and covering my shoulders with it. It’s unfortunate, too, that it is warm, and is exactly what I needed.

“You should come and sit over here,” Logan says, tilting his head back. He’s currently finishing up one of my romance novels, and I wonder how he can read them with a straight face.

I don’t possess that kind of skill, so I can never read (or listen to) them in public. I’d be a blushing mess, and people would ask questions. Then I’d have to say that I’m reading smut and there’d be even more questions I wouldn’t want to get into.

“Why? Besides, you’re taking up the whole couch.” I wave at his body, sprawled across that portion of the sectional. There’s really no room for me.

Unless, of course, that’s the point.

Logan smirks, and I know I’m in trouble. “Because it’s warmer over here.”

“No, it’s not. And I’m perfectly fine where I am, thanks.”

Logan shakes his head, his teeth flashing in a pleased smile. He goes back to reading his book, while I re-shuffle the cards and go about playing another game of solitaire.

I shiver underneath the blanket and glance up when Logan makes a noise. He’s deeply engrossed in the book, and I know he only has a small section of paper left to go.

“What the fuck, that’s the ending?” He says, lifting his eyes to meet mine. “Please tell me you have the fourth book.”

“The fourth book doesn’t come out until next year.”

“No,” he practically bellows, dropping the book into his lap. “That’s terrible.”

I snort. Watching him be so upset over a book release he has to wait over a year for, well – it’s cute. He’s cute.

And that’s dangerous.

“What am I supposed to do with my life now?”

“Read another book?” I suggest, even as Logan springs to his feet and starts to peruse my bookshelves, searching for his next read.

He pulls one at random, then half-turns to show me the cover. “This one?”

I shake my head. “After that cliffhanger, that one won’t satisfy your itch.” I wearily get to my feet, the blanket wrapped around me tight enough that I resemble a mummy.

I waddle over to stand next to him, the both of us staring at the spines.

I finally pull one out from its home and hand it to him. “I think you’ll like this one. It’s got dragons in it.”

Logan’s eyebrows pump high on his forehead. “Well, shit, okay. Thanks. Hey, do you want supper soon?”

I ignore the way my stomach leaps at the sound of yet another meal.
