AS THE TIP hit skin, Miranda was suddenly blown back by a blast of blue energy. Her borrowed body flew across the cabin and hit the wall hard. Dazed, Miranda focused what little strength she had left in keeping herself inside the sailor. He tried in vain to escape but Miranda fought back with all she had. Once he was secure, she looked at her other victim.

Elizabeth sat upright, her eyes wide with astonishment.

Miranda scanned the floor for the knife. She saw a glimmer in the corner. Filled with rage, Miranda leapt forward, barely touching the weapon as a weight fell with force on her back.

Elizabeth was fighting like hell to survive.

Before Elizabeth could yell for help, Miranda turned and hit her intended victim hard in the throat. Elizabeth lost her balance and fell backwards.

Miranda found the knife and turned quickly, slicing Elizabeth in the hand. Elizabeth crawled backwards and kicked hard. The blow hit Miranda in the face. Miranda yelped, feeling every bit of pain that the borrowed body did.

“Give me back my niece, you bitch!” Miranda growled.

Elizabeth stopped and looked at her. As she registered the words, Miranda leapt at her once again. This time, the door swung open and Miranda was hit hard on the head with a blunt object. She fell to the floor and lost her weapon. Her vision was groggy. She turned and looked at her attacker.

A naked girl stood in front of her, skin the color of rich caramel. Miranda was frozen for a moment, unable to find her focus except on the heavenly beauty facing her. Her admiration was momentary, as a pair of hands pushed her down and locked an arm upwards.

“Get off!” Miranda commanded to deaf ears. No one was coming to her rescue. She looked up again and saw another step from behind the naked girl.

It was Anne, dressed in a night shift and looking at the scene in shock.

“What is going on?” Anne asked, horrified.

Elizabeth stood up and tried to catch her breath. She rubbed her bloody hand on her own shift. As she did, Anne walked over and went to examine it.

“Never mind that Anne,” Elizabeth leaned inward and put her foot on Miranda’s chest. She then pointed to her weapons cabinet. “Find me a cutlass while I hold your bitch of an aunt down.”

Anne raised an eyebrow and looked at the possessed sailor then shook her head, confused.

“Now,” Elizabeth added forcefully.

While Anne did as she was told, Elizabeth nodded to Éndira.

“Thank you both for coming in,” Elizabeth said. “I fear I might have lost this battle.”

Éndira motioned towards the captive. “I felt something… off.”

Anne walked over and handed Elizabeth her sword. Her friend put the tip at Miranda’s throat.

“Sit up, but do not otherwise move or I will slit your throat,” Elizabeth glanced at Éndira then quickly diverted her eyes. “And you… please put some clothes on.”

Éndira looked down at herself and shrugged.

Anne sighed. “I told you she sleeps naked.”

“Go in my dresser and find another shift.
