Prom Night.
Margaux and I make it a point to slam my bedroom door simply because we want the boys to know weâre coming. Our plan is for it to be like in the movies when the guy stands at the bottom of the stairs trying to hide their excitement. But, as soon as he sees his girl a grin spreads across his face that, undoubtedly, makes her heart melt. The trading of the corsage and boutonniere is beautiful as the overly excited moms snap pictures. Shockingly enough my mom is here and sheâs overly excited. Partly because she wasnât there to see Bryan off, that was me, and partly because Iâm her only daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Cooper are also down stairs waiting for us. They couldnât stop talking about how weâd grown up so fast when we went out to lunch earlier.
As we approach the end of the hall Margaux hugs me before pulling away and squeezing my hand. This is a big day for both of us, its prom night. Weâve been dreaming about this day since sixth grade and itâs finally here. Bryan and Adam react exactly how we hoped they would. Their mouths drop open as soon as they lay eyes on us and I can feel my heart turning to liquid, Iâm pretty sure Margauxâs is too as she beams at Bryan.
âOh god, Iâm going to cry.â My mother gushes as she looks at us. Margauxâs parents are standing next to her, Mrs. Cooperâs eyes are watering and Mr. Cooper has that usual fatherly expression that shows at times like these. I look over at Adam and he mouths; âYou are perfectâ which makes my smile grow even wider. I look over just as Bryan pinches Margauxâs butt, she playfully swats his chest and he feigns injury. I knew they were more than just prom dates.
Our parents snap a thousand pictures before we even make it down the steps. Adam fastens a bright pink rose around my wrists and we leave, waving at our parents until we turn the corner. It was Bryanâs idea for us to take separate vehicles because Adam and I were being basic. So, weâre in a normal black limousine while he and Margaux are in a classic luxury limo. Adam pops the bottle of apple cider resting in the ice bucket and messily pours it into our flutes.
âTo us?â He raises his glass.
âTo us.â
â
âHurry guys, hurry.â Margaux rushes us as weâre walking to meet them at the entrance. The theme of our prom is the all too cliché masquerade ball so, after we take photos at the entrance, weâre handed masks. Mine is bejeweled along with Margauxâs while Bryans is grey and Adams is matte black both have intricate velvet designs on them. The band is playing fast paced rock music as we make our way through a crowd that weâre soon lost in. We dance for twenty minutes straight to the band's music before the Dj takes over.
The first song starts with a slow haunting beat that makes the floor vibrate.
