Quaid just had to convince the man of how wonderful they would be together once Matty gave in.

Quaid pulled the horse to a stop when they reached the edge of the creek. He swung his leg over the horse and slid down then reached back to help Matty down. Quaid could barely control his groan as Matty’s tight little body rubbed against his. It felt right, and he knew it. He just wished he could convince Matty of it.

“I told you that I wouldn’t sleep with you.”

“I know.”

“Then why are you still trying to get me to agree to marry you?” Quaid reached up and pushed a strand of light brown hair back from Matty’s face. His little angel seemed so confused. Quaid wished he could tell Matty that sex wasn’t a part of their relationship, but he knew he’d be lying. Being intimate with Matty was very much of Quaid’s mind. But he would never force the man.

“I wish I had an easy answer to give you, angel, but I don’t. Does it sadden me that you won’t have sex with me? Yes. I can think of nothing I’d like more than to learn every inch of your sexy body. But does not having you physically mean that I’m just going to toss you away? No. I’ll just have to try harder to get you to see things my way.”

“And if that never happens?”

Quaid pressed his lips together to keep his anguished protest behind his lips. The thought of never loving on Matty made him ache.

Matthew.” Quaid stroked the side of Matty’s face. “You’re too special for that.”

“How do you know that?” Matty whispered. “You don’t know anything about me.”

“So tell me then,” Quaid countered. “Tell me everything about you, and I’ll tell you everything about me. I’ll even start. I’m allergic to strawberries. They give me hives.”

“I… you…” Matty blinked for a moment then started laughing.

“You’re going to drive me crazy, aren’t you?” Quaid grinned. “I’ll do my best.”

“I love strawberries.”

“Then I’ll get medication.”

A healthy hue filled Matty’s face as he cackled with laughter.

Quaid couldn’t help but grin. He liked seeing Matty like this. He also suspected that Matty hadn’t laughed a lot in his life. He seemed almost surprised by his amusement.

“Come, angel,” Quaid said as he grabbed the canvas bag from Ma in one hand and tied the horse’s reins to a tree with the other. “Let’s go see what Ma has made us for lunch.”
