I followed Ryan to the back of the campus, my curiosity only growing as he led me into a thicket where I had to maneuver around the dense trees.

“Are you planning on murdering me? Been there, done that, don’t recommend it,” I muttered as I ducked under a lovely golden orb spider dangling in its web.

“Wish we knew more in regards to that. I bet you’re just dying to know,” Ryan shot back, and I couldn’t help but smirk.

Touche.

“So, where are we going? Do you bring all your bitches here?” I mused, and he paused as he gave me an odd look.

“No,” he said as he hesitated, as if he was insulted by the question. “I haven’t brought anyone here.”

“So I’m special then?”

He just narrowed his eyes and elected to ignore me as he turned back.

“It’s not much further.”

‘What’s his plan?’ I asked Finn, who had been oddly quiet this whole time.

I knew he was listening in on Ryan’s thoughts, but he’d chosen to keep me in the dark, which was frustrating. I hated not knowing.

‘Can’t spoil it,’ Finn finally said, piquing my interest even more.

“Here,” Ryan stated as he drew up, and I just looked around him at the trees.

“So… are these trees special?” I asked as I tried to figure out why this was so important.

“Yes, this one.” Ryan held out his hand, and I gave it an odd look as I tracked my gaze to the old gum tree he stood before. Sure, it was big, but nothing special at all.

“Do you trust me?” Ryan asked as he continued to hold his hand out.

I swallowed as I looked at his hand. As much as I hated to admit it, I did trust him. He’d come through for me too many times, even if he was a dick. And now, he was apparently my mate.

Trust came hand in hand with that, surely.

I tentatively accepted, and his expression shifted to one of relief as a small smile touched his lips, making my chest flutter stupidly.

I let him pull me towards the gum, still confused as to why it was so unique.

Until he pulled us right through it.

I gasped as we slipped into the bark, a magic veil washing over me and making my skin prickle.

Finn made a sound of surprise, and I instinctively leaned into Ryan as the darkness rippled over us.

But as quickly as it came, it shifted, and the sight that greeted me had my mouth falling open.

“What is this?” I breathed as I gazed around me in shock.

We were in an underground cavern, the rippling water before me reflecting the dazzling magical glow worms that twinkled all around in an icy blue light.

“It’s a hidden spot for mermaids on campus,” Ryan said as I just stared around in disbelief.

“How’d you know it was here? Do others know?” I could barely contain my sheer shock, and I could feel him taking delight in wowing me.

“Some others know, but not many. I found out through… a friend,” he said, pausing for a moment before he finished.
