Chapter Fifty-Six
Justin entered the conference hall at seven thirty a.m. It was a hive of activity with all the final preparations for the day ahead. A thousand chairs were set out to face the impressive curved stage. At the front of the stage was a LED lectern featuring an animated Soda-Cola logo. The back of the stage was a giant digital screen that was going through its final tests. Spotlights were spinning and roaming about the room, working out where they would be needed for certain presentations during the day. The rest of the room was decked out in Soda-Cola colors, along with branded balloons, T-shirts, and merchandise bags for the attendees. It was an impressive sight.
Justin walked onto the stage and took his place behind the lectern, resting his palms firmly on top of it. He gazed out into the auditorium. He visualized the reaction he was going to get, the standing ovation. He could hear it clearly. He imagined himself standing like this in front of the country, as the new president of the United States—cameras flashing, music playing, and people chanting his name.
“Justin Truth,” a voice called. “Justin Truth!” Justin raised a hand to block out the glare from the stage lights. The voice belonged to a technician in his early twenties. He was wearing overalls, holding a clipboard, and there were three other young men with him. Justin knew who he was, and he was on time. He beckoned him over.
This young man was responsible for the 3D holographic machine Justin had hired for his presentation. No one had used one before, another first Justin would bring to Soda-Cola. Halfway through his presentation, Justin would stand in the middle of the stage and a 3D world would appear around him. It would slowly rotate, and as he talked about different countries, they would be projected out, and float in front of him. He couldn’t wait to give it a test run.
By ten thirty a.m. the room was crowded with regulars who knew how important it was to be seen displaying the Soda-Cola spirit, and to appear excited about it. Attendance was mandatory, and if anyone missed it, it was noted, and they could expect to have a very serious conversation with their department manager.
The plan for the first day was simple:
11 a.m. – Celebrity host, to entertain and welcome everyone.
11:15 a.m. – Steve Barker’s presentation.
12:15 p.m. – Lunch break.
1:45 p.m. – Celebrity host to welcome everyone back.
2 p.m. – Justin’s presentation.
3 p.m. – Head of Human Resources: Steph Gallows to give an overview of what to expect from the five-day event—where people needed to be, timetables for guest speakers.
5:30 p.m. – Celebrity host to wrap it up for the day.
