Tate and Corin greeted Dax and Bell as they rode into the courtyard with happiness in their hearts and smiles on their faces. Both men raced over to them and the second they dismounted, there were hugs and backslaps all round. Corin's ever present emotional mumbo jumbo meant his eyes were wet with tears yet again.

“Fuck, it's good to see you guys,” Dax said.

“Indeed, it is good to find you both in good health.” Bell smiled as he spoke.

“Hmm, well for the most part we are, and it’s Doc you need to thank for it. He saved my life so many times, I think I'm losing count!”

Dax spoke above the general chatter of the courtyard, “Well, it looks like we have a lot to catch up on. First, though, who do we have to thank for this sanctuary?”

Both Alix and Niko stepped forward at his words. Tate gestured to each one in turn as he made the introductions. “This is Laird Alixandr Dastria and his son Nikoben of the Estrivia Clan. Alix, Niko, these are my squad members and friends Commander Daxin “Dax” Rydoc, and Lieutenant Bellan “Bell” Nimeri.” Both men dipped their heads in greeting.

“Thank you for allowing us entry to your clan and for giving Tate and Corin safe haven. When we found out, it was a weight off our minds not to have to worry about them. We are in your debt.” Dax bowed formally.

“Nonsense, young man, it is an honour to have these two here. Now, why don't you come inside, freshen up, and meet with your friends. We can talk properly at the evening meal,” Alix said.

“Thank you, sir, it would be much appreciated.”

“It's no problem at all, and drop the sir. As friends of these two, you can call me Alix, and my son, Niko. Niko, help show them to the guest suites and I shall see you all later.”

“Yes, father.” Niko gestured for them to follow him and he led the way into the keep.

Once they were all settled in the guest suite, clean and with food in front of them, Dax filled them in on what happened with the two of them.

“We only just made it into the pod in time. There were explosions all around us. The cruiser was breaking apart at the most incredible rate. Although I can't say I'm surprised, given how big a heap of junk that thing was. Anyway, as we were last to get to our pod, we watched the two of you ahead of us. Bray and Hunter's pod seemed to make a controlled descent, although we couldn't track where they landed. Your pod got hit by some of the debris from the Delphini. Our best guess is it took out one of your stabilizers as you started to spiral down towards the surface of the planet. As if losing a stabilizer wasn't bad enough, we could tell your pod was speeding up at the same time. I swear you were surrounded by a flaming shield as you breached the atmosphere.
