Cutter drove to Zabrowski’s bar and went inside.

There was just one solitary customer at a corner table at that time of the day.

‘I thought you would be in New York by now.’ The owner greeted him, surprised.

‘I’ve some loose ends to tie up.’

‘Related to your investigation?’

‘Yeah.’

‘You don’t want to talk about it. I get it. Coffee’s on me.’

Cutter picked up his cup and went to the delivery entrance and out. He stood near the trash bin. The yard where he had talked to Marina in the night. Nothing noteworthy at the back of the bar.

That view of Tenth Street, though. Anyone standing here has a good view of cars passing or whatever’s happening on it.

The nearest buildings on either side of the bar were more than a hundred feet away. An office supplies store on the right and a hair salon to the left.

No cameras on either of them. Beth and Meg checked. Coronado is not the kind of town where a lot of crime happens.

‘You still think she didn’t die naturally?’ Zabrowski joined him.

‘I haven’t decided.’

‘Cutter, you don’t give up, do you? Heck, the cops—’

‘That’s the thing.’ He chuckled. ‘I am not the police. I don’t need evidence. I can go on my gut feel.’

And that’s telling me there’s something wrong, very wrong with her death.

Back in his car, he got Werner to track Kastelli’s phone and found its location tracking was turned off. It didn’t surprise him.

It’s a safety measure. Lukather’s got his turned off too, and has got other software to protect his identity.

He got Werner to scan every available photograph of the billionaire to check if there were girls in them.

No dice.

He looked up the senator’s staff. There were several women, many of them young, but all were adults.

He pondered for a moment and a grin lit up his face. It was time to meet his favorite women.
