It was a rough thirty-five minute flight to the nearest town that hadn't been affected by the flood. Luckily, we'd been able to reserve a block of rooms to put up the team and the rescued campers.

I felt bad for the locals in the flood decimated area who would also be looking for shelter tonight, but I understood that Sam had to think of the campers first. The poor guy had been on the phone the entire flight—between arranging rooms, talking to Noah over at Team ALPHA, and assuring his mate that he was okay.

The whole situation was FUBAR. Even if we hadn't caused it, I had no doubts that someone in our parent organization would be working behind the scenes with FEMA and other agencies to help the locals.

As soon as the chopper landed on a field across from the motel where we’d be staying, Sam pulled the door open and clambered out. He was tapping out a message on his phone while he went off in search of the Team ALPHA members who were supposed to be meeting us here.

Ozzy ducked his head to get through the doorway then leaned back into the chopper. He flicked the bottom of a bare foot then shook his head. "Any ideas on what we're gonna do about our pile of roofied kitties?"

Pierce was making notes in a flight log, but glanced back over his shoulder with a grin. "I could give you a few ideas from my trainee days, but these fuckers have sharp claws and deadly fangs. I'm not sure that making them look pretty is the best idea. But if you want, a little makeup and nail polish would be a good start."

Ozzy snorted and shook his head. "As tempting as that is, I was thinking more along the lines of how the hell are we going to get them out of here."

Micah stood and made a wide berth around the pile of men. He waited at the doorway for me to join him, ignoring the helpful hand that Ozzy politely extended—a tiny gesture which made my wolf stupid happy. Ozzy just shrugged and stepped to the side while I jumped out then reached for Micah.

The cats hadn't so much as stirred since we landed. I glanced down at Micah. "Just how potent was that catnip?"

Micah shrugged, his green eyes filled with an interesting mixture of concern and humor. "I have no idea. I didn't expect it to hit them so hard. It's not at its full strength until later in the summer. The plants we picked were so young, I wasn't sure if it would even work."

I let out a low whistle. "Dayum. If this isn't the full potency, I'd hate to see them on the real stuff. Shit, we might've killed them with a mature crop."

Pierce chuckled. "I want to ask if that would be a loss, but from what I hear, these guys do serve a purpose from time to time."

"They serve a purpose, just make sure you have an empty stomach if you have to witness them in action.
