CHAPTER 8

MADDY

“Mommy, Mommy, you has to come with us, it’s portant.”

“Hmm, important is it?” I glance behind Max to see Tyler with a huge grin on his face. “Well, in that case, let me get my things.”

Max proudly replies, “We gots them already, they in the car.”

“Okay, I guess we are all settled then.” In a loud whisper I add, “Max, do I get to know where we are going?”

He shakes his head then yells, “Secret, secret, we has a secret.”

I pretend to gasp in shock, “You mean to tell me that you keep secrets from me.”

Giggling, he nods his head, “Yep!”

Standing up, I start to make my way out the door. “Let’s go then, I’d like to know what this secret is.”

Max excitedly follows us out the door and eagerly jumps into his car seat.

Once we are on the way, Max starts shouting, “Guess, guess.”

Glancing over at Tyler, he only winks which is no help at all. “Hmm, are we going to get ice cream?”

“No.”

“How about…the zoo?”

“Nope!”

“Well, this is a tough one then…the park?”

“No.”

“Can I have a clue?”

Max only giggles, “Daddy, does she gets a clue?”

Tyler looks back at Max then smirks, “Nah, we are almost there, let’s make her wait.”

“Wait, wait, Mommy wait!” For the rest of our journey, I not only have to listen to Max chanting that I can wait but Tyler decides to join in on the action.

I’ve lost count of the number of times that they have ganged up on me since Tyler moved in but I don’t mind in the least.

Max missed out on quality time with his dad because of me so it’s only fair that I let them bond.

If that bonding includes lightly heckling me at every turn, then so be it.

Plus, I can pretend to be annoyed about it then I can have my two boys bring me breakfast in bed to apologize.

There’s no better feeling in the world than being doted on by the men I love.

Tyler pulls into the driveway of a quaint little one-story house with a wrap around porch and an immaculate garden.

As Tyler kills the engine, a lady appears from the house and starts waving in his direction.

“We’re here!” Max shouts.

Tyler grins at Max then places his hand on my knee, “Come on. Let me show you your surprise.”

I knew Tyler had been house hunting but I had no idea that he had found something this quickly.

We talked at length about what kind of house we wanted and from the outside it basically looks like he’s come up with my dream home.

“Tyler, this is…”

“Perfect, right?”

“Yeah,” I breathe out.

There are no other words to describe this place.

“Come on, let me show you the rest and don’t worry, I haven’t put an offer in yet. If you don’t like it then I’ll find something else.”

“You have to see my room first! Hurry up,” Max calls out impatiently.

“Sorry Max, I’m just really surprised, you guys did great. I love it already.” Hoping out of the car, I take Max out of his car seat and we all walk up to meet the agent who will be showing us the house.
