CHAPTER ELEVEN

WHERE EAGLES DARE

“Discipline is the soul of the U.S. Army Rangers.

It makes small numbers formidable;

procures success to the weak and esteem to all.”

Clark landed the plane and brought it back to the dock outside the hotel. Greyeagle had not only located the hidden lair where the creatures hid by day, but he also located a massive clearing large enough for the teams to use as a landing zone, or LZ[34], for the target for the teams.

Clark had been in contact with All-father and been advised that Team Odin had landed in Buenos Aires four hours ago and prepared the choppers to bring in the Mimic Units. They were already on their way to deploy the Mimics and secure the LZ. Team Odin would be the first to arrive and the last to leave. There was a reason that they had all earned their Pathfinder badge.

Team Orion, one of the West Coast teams, was going to come in right behind Team Odin and establish another landing zone on the outskirts of the village, complete with another set of Mimic Units. That would be General Dalton’s Command Center. They would hold that Landing Zone and prevent any escape by the Nazi personnel through the town.

Since Inalco was on a peninsula, it was going to be key that they block both directions to prevent them from escaping. Clark doubted that they would try to escape by water, due to the danger posed by the sharkmen. It was possible that they could escape by air, but thus far they’d been unable to locate a landing strip where they could lift from. They’d seen no sign of any aircraft, although Clark knew that Hinderman collected World War Two aircraft. The question was, where were they?

In addition to the fleet of Chinooks who were bringing in the Mimic Units, eight Apache helicopters were accompanying them. They were to help establish air superiority before the assault on Inalco. If any aircraft lifted from there, the Apaches had orders to shoot them down.

The assault would launch immediately after the teams reached the ground. Team Uller was already cut orders to locate and eliminate the cat creatures. It would be their job to make sure the other teams weren’t fighting Hinderman’s “security” forces and the cat creatures at the same time.

“Tie us off,” said Clark, nodding to Greyeagle.

Greyeagle went out through the cockpit hatch and jumped across to the dock. Tying them off, he nodded at Clark who shut down the engines and let Greyeagle pull them the rest of the way to the dock before completely securing the lines.

The others began climbing out the side hatch onto the dock. They had all changed back to their civilian clothes and stowed the weapon back in their bags. All of them were still carrying the .50 GI Glocks, concealed inside their waistbands. Too many things were in motion now for them to be caught off guard, now.

As Clark was preparing to leave the cockpit, his phone buzzed.
