Chapter 3

I fumbled with my keys on the doorstep. The kitchen light was on and I knew my roommate was home. I expected to see her when I walked in the door. Instead, the only noise I heard was the dishwasher. I walked to my room removing my earrings and necklace as I looked around to see if she had changed anything. Nope, it was still the same. Her light was off in her room, so I figured she was sleeping or with her man. I placed the diamond studs in my jewelry box and grabbed the pocket size baby book I purchased after my first ultrasound. She was growing so fast, and I couldn't wait to meet her. A tear fell from my eye as I realized how hard I was going to have to fight to keep her.

Sarah was doing this for revenge. She was taking the anger she felt for her husband out on me. What other reason would a married woman agree to raise the baby her husband had with another woman?

There was a knock on my door and I raised my brow, curiously wondering why my roommate was knocking on my door. It took me a few seconds to get to the door, but she was still waiting there when I answered.

“Hey, I see you're back. Umm some white guy came here a few minutes before you got here looking for you. He said his name is Carson, and for you to call him as soon as you can.”

“Carson?”

I hadn't checked my phone since getting in the taxi, so of course Carson would have called by now. I offered her a weak smile in thanks and closed my door. A few minutes later we both heard loud knocking at the door.

“I'll get it.” Mariah said. I could hear her moving around in the kitchen.

“Tara!” She hollered my name a few minutes later.

Damn it. I knew it was Carson at the door. It didn't take him long to figure out I moved out. For a second, I considered ignoring him. That option became obsolete when he started twisting my door knob. He barged in and his lips were pursed together in a thin line. He waited for me to speak.

“What are you doing here?” I asked after a few minutes of him staring at me with those ocean blue eyes.

“The question is what are you doing here? Your residence is in my guest house. Get your things, you're leaving.”

“You can't make me leave here. I can't handle this Carson. You made your choice seven months ago. We are done.”

“We are not done. We are never done. You are mine, and you will always be mine.” He said firmly taking steps towards me.

I scooted off my bed and lowered my feet to the floor. My intentions were to hold the door and show him the way out. Before I could take another step towards the door, he reached out and grabbed my arm.

“Let me go Carson!”

I pulled back and he loosened his grip, but he still held on to my arm.
