It had been a long time since I’d laughed that much. Too long, really. Watching the kids and their “reindeer” had been fun, and so had hanging out with Charlie. It was weird how comfortable I was around him already, like I’d known him all my life.

I’d played it off like it was no big deal, but I’d been thrilled when he’d shown up. The past three days had flown by, and not just because I was busy organizing his accounting system for Bearly Beans. I’d worked full days there, then drafted proposals and worked on my business plan at night. I’d already had some nibbles and was encouraged that I could start my own accounting business right here in this quirky little town that I’d already grown to love.

Becca and I had spent a fair amount of time together too. She’d answered all of my questions about shifters, and we’d gone into her yard the other night and I’d watched her transition back and forth into her bear form again. It was funny, a week ago I’d thought shifters were just a fairy tale and now I just accepted it as part of life here in Greysden.

Becca had explained that most of the town’s residents were shifters of some sort, and I could totally see that now. There was something different in the air here, I wouldn’t have been able to define it before, but now that I knew the truth it was obvious. I could see it was a sense of magic and the shifting energy of being surrounded by people who shared their bodies with animals.

Despite being a full human, I felt completely safe and comfortable here, as if this was where I was meant to be. And maybe I was. I couldn’t help but wonder if everything in my life had led me to this town, had led me to Charlie.

Ah, Charlie. We’d eaten lunch together three days in a row, and I couldn’t help but feel a flutter in my chest at the way he was so intent on taking care of me. If he wasn’t there, I would just immerse myself in my work and not come up for air until it was dark. Normally when I was focused on my work, I was focused. It was nice someone look out for me. I hadn’t had that in a long time.

And those make-out session in his office...my god. He’d made me come with his hand or his mouth for three consecutive days and despite the enormous erection tenting his pants, he’d refused to take any pleasure for himself. Each time he told me that he wanted to wait until I was ready for us to become mates.

It was hard to remember that we’d only known each other for four days. In a way, it felt like we’d known each other forever. He was never far from my thoughts, and he filled my dreams as I slept.
