Jace cleared his throat at the back door to the kitchen.

“Hi, what are you doing?” Candy asked, surprised to see him.

Sticking his hand in his pocket, he pulled out a piece of folded paper and handed it out for her to take. “Alice said I was going with you to Eureka. She sent me a list to give you saying you’d know what she wants.”

“Oh, okay. I was expecting someone else, but it’s all good. Um, I guess, if you want to come you can?” Drat. She really had hoped it was Drake coming. In fact, she was betting on it. She thought Alice would have sent him because she knew Candy liked him.

“Yeah, Reese was on his way out to see if Drake wanted to come, but I told him that I could since it was my day off and all. No reason to make Drake when he’s working. Besides, we can talk about that rain check.” He winked.

So Alice had planned for Drake to come. At least the thought was there, right? Well, the day was wasting, and she didn’t have a way to slow it down—yet.
