7 ~ Taylor

I was a hot mess. Like a hot mess rolled in toxic waste and dipped-in-a-landfill mess. I’d barely slept for a week, cried more than I’d thought possible, gone way past depressed and probably into hysterical… And still there were new and interesting ways for me to hurt. Walking in on Colton and Dex ganging up on Landan hurt. What they said to me after hurt. Realizing they were right and my life was pretty much over devastatingly hurt.

But more than all of that, more than worrying about losing myself, missing Landan hurt. I’d been so stupid. I’d screwed up so badly. And maybe a part of me never really believed in soul mates until I’d fallen so hard and fast for someone I barely got to spend much time with. Yeah I tended to not look before I leaped and go balls out with everything in life, but not like this, not in my love life.

If I could just get another chance, I would do it all so differently. Not give a shit what anyone else thinks other than him and me and not let any guilt eat at me—not that there would be any now that we wouldn’t have mates of our own because we were mated to each other. That really changed things of course.

There was a soft knock on the door, interrupting my internal debates and monologue.

“Leave me alone, means leave me alone!” I bellowed, tired of one or all of my siblings calling, trying to check in, or sending someone else to make sure I hadn’t done something extreme. Like what? Off myself so they didn’t have to later when I went feral? Yeah, of course I’d thought of that, but I couldn’t do it then right after Landan rejected me. That would be so awful for him.

Did it have to be done one day? Yes. I wouldn’t let my brothers get stuck with killing me. I couldn’t be that cruel to them. Just thinking about taking my own life someday soon made me choke up. All I had wanted was to be happy. Was that such an extreme goal that it was so far out of my reach now? There was another knock and I growled from deep in my stomach. “I swear to God if you don’t go away, I will gut you and leave your entrails out in the hallway as a warning for everyone to piss off!”

I rolled over when I heard the door open, giving my back to whomever was coming in. Then I wiped my eyes and nose, too stuffed up to smell much of anything no less who it was. I scrunched my eyebrows together when I heard soft footsteps after the door closed. My brothers never made soft anything.

“You didn’t mean you’d gut me, right?” Landan whispered as he came around the other side of the bed.

I blinked up at him a second before chuckling, then I started full out hysterically giggling as tears fell. “Oh shit, I’m really cracking up now.
