I raise an eyebrow, because first, where does she get off talking to me like that, and second, pushing me? She'd better have some good fucking intel to assist Operation Escape to be getting up in my face like this—

She speaks fast, urgent.

"You're getting out, yes? When?"

I stare at her.

"That's none of your fucking business," I say slowly. "And anyway, how do you expect me to do anything without any plans or info that you're meant to be getting me?"

She ignores that. Her eyes lock on mine.

"I want to come."

I laugh in her face.

"No fucking chance."

She steps towards me. She's shorter than me – much shorter than my six feet – but she draws herself up, glaring into my face.

"I need to get out of here."

"Why?" I scoff. "Because you're going to the Yoc later today and you can't handle playing with the big girls? Tough shit—"

She thumps her thigh.

"I need to get out of here, Curtis!"

I laugh again.

"We all need to get out of here, sweetheart. What makes you so special?"

A thought hits my brain.

"And you're moving to the Yoc later. No more cosy chitchats with Weston and his family, no more living in his house. So you won't be able to get me any fucking intel anyway."

Fuck. Fuck. McCann's transfer to the Yoc will fuck me up as well as her—

She grabs the front of my overalls and I move fast, slapping her hands away.

"Whatever you've done," I snarl, "it's fucked up my plans. So no, you're not coming with me. I'll be lucky if I can get out now without any insider info—"

She grabs me again. This time I hit her away so hard she falls against the wall. I still instantly, waiting for any sound downstairs, any indication that the soldier supposedly keeping an eye on us is coming to investigate the noise.

She's in my face again.

"Curtis," she says. "I'll still know about things, won't I. Things we might not even realise yet, things that'll help when we make a break for it. Weston's routine, my dad's routine—"

I think this over for a second, then I shake my head. Sure, she has more intel on this place than I do. But I don't think it's anything that'll help.

She curses. She looks down, breathing hard. Then she looks up. Is she fighting back tears? Toughface McCann?

"I'll do anything," she says.

I scoff again.

"Like what? Like there's anything you could fucking do that'd make me want you anywhere near me."

Her hands are at my overalls again. But not at my chest this time. At my dick, which (treacherously) stands to attention straight away.

"Like this," she says.
