The aim, however, is to achieve an overall balance. If you keep a food diary you will get a general idea; you would be able to spot a creeping tendency to eat too much bread, eat meat at every meal or drink a lot of milk. A few tweaks, and the balance is back. It’s important not to get bogged down in trying to achieve perfection (which would be impossible) or be so despondent that you abandon the whole idea. When you are calorie counting it’s important to make every calorie count, so try and get it roughly right.
