Chapter 11

Praise the Lord!

It was a beautiful Sunday morning and the Muses were ready to go to church. Just a few weeks after arriving in Colorado, they found a church nearby called Grace Community Church. The Muses were immediately drawn to it because it was small and cozy, and the members were very humble people. Unlike many churches, their main focus was the message of God’s unconditional love and grace. Other churches the Muses had gone to in the past had a tendency to focus on sin, condemnation, and what people should be or should not be doing. Also, the services would last for hours at a time. In Grace Community Church, the pastor managed to preach a meaningful message in only thirty minutes.

Best of all, Grace Community Church was very active in the community. They always lend a helping hand, putting God’s word into action. Their members were very involved in reaching out, not only to the community, but also overseas. Their mission was to reflect everything Jesus Christ stood for, which was love, mercy, compassion, and all that good stuff.

The church was not far from the Muses at all, yet the Muses always took the family van because they liked to go eat out after the service.

The Muses always made sure that they got to church early so that they had a chance to mingle with other church members. On arriving there, Mildred was pleased to see how friendly and welcoming the members were. This was something totally new to her.

The sermon that day was in reference to the scripture of 1 Corinthians 13:2 where it says, “If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.”

The pastor’s main focus was to make people aware that even if they know the Bible from beginning to end and go to church every Sunday, but did not have love for others, then it means nothing to God. The pastor did a great job in portraying this message of love and compassion for others and Mildred was very moved by it.

She didn’t understand why, but it definitely hit home.

Toward the end of the service, the pastor asked for volunteers to help out with the distribution of food to the needy for Thanksgiving Day. This was only a few days away. Immediately, Amanda and Vicky thought about Bo. Amanda wanted to go back to the park and find out how Bo was doing after Coco’s death and the incident with Mildred, but she was hesitant because she feared that Mildred would recognize him.

Both, Amanda and Vicky, realized that visiting Bo, especially for Thanksgiving, was inevitable. They knew that they were not going to be able to go around feeding the needy and skipping Bo. They were going to have to think of something.

After the service, the Muses went to their usual after-church lunch spot. It was at an Italian restaurant called Marcos’ Pizza Pazza, which means ‘Marcos’ Crazy Pizza.
