Chapter 9

A guy with a bucket on his head, mumbling something inaudible runs past us and down the block.

“We must be close to Dunn’s house,” Vanessa says laughing.

“I miss going to a Knights party,” Kelsey says.

Zoe is carrying two six packs of vodka coolers. She looks determined to have fun tonight.

I have my crew with me. I’m going to a party that most cant go to. I have my man waiting for me there. Should be a good night. A fun night. What the hell does Grandma Keen know anyways?

So why am I so miserable?

We walk into Duns house and the party is insane. Bodies are everywhere. Music is blasting. Some guy is puking his guts out in the corner.

The man stands and I almost laugh when I realize it’s Josh.

Zoe runs up to him. “Are you okay, babe? Want me to grab some water or something?”

“I’m good. I had a few too many beer bongs,” he says. He grabs on to Zoe’s body almost teetering over.

I wonder what Caleb and Dunn look like?

I search the party for Rachel. She said she wanted to meet us here in our group chat. Part of me wondered if it was because she didn’t want to see me. We leave Zoe behind with Josh, or what’s left of Josh, and wander the party.

Rachel runs up to Vanessa and Kelsey. “Finally! You guys are here. Do you know how boring parties are when you’re not drinking?”

“I plan to look like the rest of the party, very soon,” Vanessa says laughing.

Rachel looks at Kelsey. “I guess your going to be starting with the beer bongs again?”

Kelsey waves her head. “I can’t this time. I just can’t.”

Rachel looks at me but says nothing. I walk up to her. “I’m not really in a drinking mood. I can be your sober buddy, if you want me?”

Vanessa and Kelsey give each other a look and start sliding out of eyesight. For a change, they don’t want to be involved in this drama.

Rachel tightens her bottom lip. “I’m still pretty pissed.”

“I know it was your secret to share with him, and I ruined it.” I think of all the moments I’ve watched on television or movies where the girl tells the guy that she’s pregnant. I’ve never seen the scene where the girls friend opens her stupid mouth and ruins it for her. I’m sure those type of moments doesn’t come around too often, and she never got to have hers, because of me. “I wish I could take it back.”

Rachel lowers her head. A techno song blasts on the speakers and I almost feel like she’s about to break out in dance. “I’m still pissed, but I’ll eventually get over it.” Rachel hugs me tightly. A guy doing a robot dance, hits Rachel hard in the shoulder. “Ah! What the hell?”

I look at the robot dancer coldly. “We’re trying to have a moment here!”

The guys put up his arms up a robot fashion, surrendering himself, and robot walks away from us.
