I stay off social media and my phone on Sunday morning.

I don’t want to know what shit storm is brewing.

I finally turn it back on late in the afternoon only to find there are a ton of messages.

The first one is from Aide.

Aide: r u ok? Can u please let me know. Xoxo

“No, Aide. I am definitely not okay.”

I open the next text without replying to Aide. I can’t right now.

Dillon: u ok? I’m not sure what went down but he’s an asshole

“More than you know, Dillion.”

I close out Dillon’s text without answering.

Kaitlyn: r u going to be ok?

“I’m not sure this time . . .”

Aide: u need 2 let me know u are ok

“I can’t right now.”

My eyebrows pinch together when I see a message from Collins.

Collins: he told me. I’m sorry. R u alright? Do you need anything?

Fuck.

My stomach heaves. The bile taste in my mouth makes me gag. Collins did not need to know that about me.

Fuck.

My phone continues to chime as more messages pop up.

Aide: seriously, I need u 2 answer me. What do u need?

“Aide, can you erase Kearse from my life?”

I let out a sigh as I see Mave’s text.

Mave: hi, late night? I heard you sneak in. Lol. Some people are going for dinner after our shift, I might go if ur good for dinner?

Thank fucking gawd. I can’t even face you right now. You’d be so disappointed in me. I’m disappointed in me. Especially after you told me I have a good head on my shoulders. Because clearly, I do not. Last night was absolutely not the actions of a person with a good head on their shoulders. It was more like insanity.

I text Mave back because I know if I don’t, she’ll come home.

Me: was at a party. Of course. I’m fine for dinner. A ton of studying to do. All good

Mave: great. Love u kiddo

Me: xoxo

Aide: im getting worried

Me: hi sorry. I can’t right now

Aide: aww hay. Thx for answering tho. I get it. I’m here when u r ready xoxo
