“LEVI, I hope this won’t come out wrong,” Jericho Brown said when Eric stood up to leave. “But I can see you don’t know a lot about food, you know, cooking. I’m really curious how you got a job as Cameron’s assistant without a stronger culinary background”
“Oh, I don’t mind you asking,” Eric replied with a wide grin, relishing the question. “All I had to do was sleep with Cameron to get this job. It’s no secret that’s how he likes to make decisions. Just keep him happy—if you know what I mean—” Eric gave a lecherous grin. “—and it’s a win-win situation….”
The look on Jericho Brown’s face was priceless! Eric wished he’d brought a camera. He’d remember the open-mouthed look of shock and the flash of jealousy in the man’s eyes for a long, long time.
It was done. His business here was concluded. Mission accomplished. There was no way Jericho Brown would go near Cameron now or trust a thing Cameron said. A fitting punishment for Cam, leading Eric on and then lying to him and dumping him after screwing Jericho Brown.
It was just too delicious toying with the hopes and enthusiasm of this guy. Eric could still twist the knife in Jericho’s back a few more times, for good measure.
“You mentioned you made a brand new flavor just for Cameron. How about if you let me take some back to the office for him? I’m going straight back there so it won’t melt or anything.”
Jericho looked apprehensive and Eric had to coax him to give up the coveted ice cream by making up something about it being the best way to make a good impression on Cam.
“Okay,” Jericho finally gave in. “I’ll pack it up with dry ice and you’ll have about an hour or so to get it into a freezer.”
“I’m sure he’ll be thrilled to be the first—only—person to try it.” Eric smiled his nicest smile. The one he practiced in case he ever won a Grammy. Jericho left the room and returned with the package.
Eric stood and shook Jericho’s hand.
“This is awesome. I’m sure Cameron’ll get in touch with you as soon as he tries it. And I’ll let you know when the interview will run. We might need to do some follow-up on the phone in case I left out anything important.”
As he stepped back into the street, Eric breathed a huge sigh of relief. He had a bounce in his step as he headed to the next block where he could catch a taxi. He was running behind schedule and his band had a couple of hours of studio time booked that afternoon. He hadn’t expected Jericho Brown would have so fucking much to say about ice cream. Jesus, the guy acted like the entire world revolved around the stuff. It was just ice cream for fuck’s sake, not a cure for fucking cancer! Despite that, Eric had been surprised by Jericho’s ice cream. He’d never tasted anything like it before. Even though he couldn’t recognize half of the flavors, it was impossible to deny it was delicious.
