Tough Decision

Eventually, the word got out to the homicide detectives who was responsible for the dead man in the parking lot of the liquor store. Cody was arrested in the middle of the night and quickly processed. Cavey stepped up when he heard and immediately hired him the best lawyer in town as he went to work on finding out who was responsible for the attempted kidnapping. That same week, bodies started dropping and wouldn’t stop until everyone involved and their family members were dead. Being that the circumstances stated by witnesses clearly appeared to be a heroic act on his part, the judge granted Cody a small bail which allowed him to be released the same day he went to court.

When Cody was released on bail, he knew at least Rick would be there to pick him up. Walking out of the jail he saw Rick but was taken aback to see Cavey there waiting patiently as well. Cavey turned to Rick.

“He’ll meet you in the hood young dog. I need him to ride with me,” he explained.

Cody walked up and extended his hand to greet Cavey.

“Thank you,” Cody said.

They slapped fives.

“Let’s roll,” Cavey said.

Cody turned to looked at Rick as if to say what can I do?

“I’ll meet you on the block,” he told Rick and headed to the parking lot with Cavey.

Inside the Corvette, Cavey didn’t speak at first as he pulled out into traffic and shifted the gear stick. No music played inside the car; only the roar of the engine could be heard. The silence was starting to irritate the hell out of Cody, not knowing what the man was thinking. He wanted to say something, but he wanted to know what was on the OG’s mind before he spoke and said the wrong thing.

“I never got a chance to say thank you so I’m saying it now,” Cavey finally said.

“You really don’t have to thank me. I appreciate it, but I care about your daughter a lot.”

“Trust me, I know I don’t gotta do shit. But that was some G shit you did partner and I can respect it. I respect you way more than I did a week ago.”

“I respect you too OG.”

“With that being said, you save my daughter’s life so I can never repay you for that, but what I can do is make sure you get no jail time for this charge and I can put you on and make you rich. But if you gonna stay playing in these streets you gotta leave my daughter alone. As you can see, her life is already dangerous enough because of her father, and I don’t need you adding to it. You can’t have it both ways young dog. It’s gonna be one or the other.”

Cody just dropped his head without responding at first. He had so many other things on his mind, but the one thing he knew for sure was that he loved Pashunce and didn’t want to let her go.
