Chapter 4

“There’s a leak in the bathroom downstairs,” Marc stops his pacing and retorts, “What?”

“I can hear the water dripping from a pipe,” I reply. Every minuscule sound throughout our house I can hear perfectly, as if the volume switch to the world is turned up to maximum.

My hands shield my ears and he bends down placing his hands over mine and asks, “What can I do?”

I don’t even bother to raise my throbbing head, my eyes water from the overwhelming excessive sounds and I’m only able to utter, “Call Evan.”

Evan has been exposed to Demon’s blood before when he was with the Brotherhood, which is the main demonstration of their sadistic rituals and power. As Marc calls Evan, he carefully guides me to our master bathroom, thinking it might help if I take a shower while he consults with him. I stand deadlocked to the shower wall letting the water pour over me, my legs start shaking, so I slide downward to the tile floor. The scent of the chlorine and other chemicals immersed in the water becomes so strong I have to turn the shower off. I catch the silhouette of Marc’s body as he moves back and forth impatiently in front of the glass door.

Even through the thick steamy filled room I can clearly see him in his unbutton black dress shirt and dark slacks, running his hand through his tousled blonde hair. He’s still on his cell with Evan, explaining everything to him, but not only am I hearing Marc speak, I’m able to hear Evan talking just as clear as day. It’s as if he’s standing in the exact same room with us. Every sense is heightened and I have not a clue how to tone it down.
