Chapter 7
Bob was settled in his new pen; larger than the cage he had been in before, but not enough for him to move around. He was starting to get restless and Will made a mental note to call the vets to talk about entertaining Bob in his cage, or as a last resort, sedating him. In Willâs mind sedation was definitely a last resort.
Will spent some time in the afternoon cuddling Bob, and left him with a chew toy to give him something to do. A knock at the door interrupting his musing as he stood with the fridge door open, contemplating what he could be bothered to cook.
He wasnât entirely surprised to see Lawrence on his doorstep.
âCan I come in?â Lawrence asked when Will didnât say anything.
âIf you must.â Will stepped back to let him past.
Lawrence scowled at the cages stacked in the hallway. He hesitated and then continued into the kitchen.âGood, you havenât started cooking yet. Iâm going to take you out.â
âI donât think thatâs such a good idea,â Will said.
âTough.â
Will barked out a laugh. âDo you ever listen to anyone else?â
âNot when theyâre talking bollocks. And you are definitely talking bollocks. Iâm taking Bob out for a bathroom break. Get your shoes on.â
âI donât want to go out. Lawrence, youâve got to stop hassling me.â Sweat broke out across Willâs forehead.
Lawrence cupped Willâs jaw and stroked his thumb across his mouth. âIâm so fucking tired of arguing with you, Will. I like you, you like me. Whyâre you avoiding me?â
Will blurted the words out before he could say anything. âBecause youâll go away and leave me alone.â
Lawrence blinked and blinked again. âWhat? I donât understand, love.â
âDonât call me that.â Will closed his eyes to hide away from Lawrenceâs concern.
âWill.â Lawrence held Willâs chin in a firm grip. âLook at me.â
Reluctantly Will opened his eyes. âLet go of me.â
âNot until you tell me what this is all about.â
âI donât want to get close to people because they all go away.â
âYou mean your parents.â
âYeah.â
âAnd your friends that you pushed away.â
Will frowned. Thatâs not how he saw it. âIââ
Lawrence placed a finger across his mouth. âShut up, Will. Youâll just say something else stupid.â
âYou really know how to be offensive, donât you?â
âYep. Now where are your shoes? Do you want your trainers?â
Will opened his mouth to argue again, only to be talking to himself as Lawrence left the room.
âHey, Bob, howâre you doing? I like your new pen.â
Will leaned against the fridge/freezer, smiling as he listened to Lawrence chat to Bob. He didnât rush to find his shoes, knowing from past experience that there was no stopping the man once he got chatting to the dog.
âAre you ready yet?â
Will rolled his eyes and went to look for his trainers.
