Casey opened the attachment and read through it. The dad was a Nathan Grace, seemed like he was living in the Houston area nowadays. His first email to Tina was short, hesitant – an apology for not contacting her before now, a brief explanation that he’d given up alcohol and with encouragement from his counsellor was trying to right some past wrongs – one of them being walking out on his family. In his words:

‘I’m not trying to barge back into your life, and I have no expectations of your response, but I wanted you to know I’m not the man I was all them years ago, and I’d like the chance to get to know the woman my daughter became, even if it’s just over email.’
