Chapter III – Let It Be

She had her morning coffee out on the beach as well as a glass of wine in the evening. She was loving her time there and wondered if she would really have to go back to reality.

Unbeknownst to her Jessie, her boss, showed up for an on - site visit. He would be staying at the same small cottage that she had been. And that simple fact made her feel somewhat awkward. She generally liked to keep her distance from people and him staying in the same place, although unavoidable, it was causing her anxiety.

It was late when he arrived, so they called it a night. The next morning as he walked around the island and listened to her ideas and plans for the place, he didn’t seem to have much to say about any of it. Her excitement for the project had turned out to not be contagious.

They spent the best part of the day out and about going over every little detail of the plan. In some ways, it felt like a formal deposition at times. It was just that grueling.

Later on, they sat down at the dinner table to mull everything over. Despite all of her hard work and dedication to the project, his lack luster response had proven to be devastatingly disappointing to her.

She stomped across the old hard wood floors and slammed the door as she went outside. She ran hard and fast for as long as she could just trying to let the tension out. She couldn’t believe what was happening.

When she got angry, really angry, she didn’t scream or yell. She became quiet and teary eyed. And when she could run no more she collapsed onto the sandy shoreline and laid still on her back. Her chest was rising and falling very fast as she tried to catch her breath.

She laid there for the longest time and may have even fallen asleep momentarily. When she awoke a shadow blocked her from the setting sun. She struggled to open her tired swollen eyes.

Jessie sat down beside her and began to explain something to her. He said,

“A few years ago, my daughter grumbled about her chores that she was given at home. She felt we were being unfair, as parents, and she was noticeably upset by that.

She had had an attitude with her mother for some time and was failing to do her chores intermittently. Her mother had grown tired of the constant bickering between them, and I was hearing more about it than I wanted too as well.

So, I finally pulled her aside and told her a story. I explained that some time ago there were three young women that accepted a job at a local store.

They all worked equally hard while at work and made the same amount of money at the end of the week.

When they got their paychecks they all three went in separate ways almost immediately. The first young woman cashed in and went to the casino to try her luck.
