Chapter 11

He had slept fitfully throughout the night. Tossing and turning with sleep evading him again and again. It was probably in anticipation of what was coming. At least that is what he presumed. It had been a long time since he had not gotten a full night’s sleep for any reason. This was beyond a mere reason though, it was a calling. Perhaps even his destiny. Father Richard could not help but feel that his preparations were for something much grander than he understood.

Crawling from his bed, he knelt upon the floor offering a simple prayer of gratitude before rising to face the challenges of the day. The first of which was a sermon he wrote for today, dealing with being faithful. It would not be a long sermon, but one he felt his flock needed. Though in honesty he would rather be preparing for the trials that waited ahead.

He quickly entered the tiny bathroom adjoined to his chamber and showered, before carefully shaving and donning his robes. Dressed, he checked his image in the mirror, not for vanity, but to assure himself that he did not appear haggard from the night’s labors. Assured none would worry about his, health he left his chamber and headed straight for the kitchen.

Unlocking the door, he peeked out just as the first of the volunteers arrived. Her name was Sharon Dougherty, and God bless her she was a food-loving woman. The good Father watched as she scooted and slid out of her minivan, and watched as it suddenly popped up several inches, relieved of its greatest burden. She pulled out several bags from her vehicle as he approached her to lend a hand. Huffing and puffing she smiled, unaware her long flowery dress had all bunched up in the crack of her ass as she had scooted out of the van. Likelihood was, it would remain that way until someone mentioned it, though the Father couldn’t bring himself to do so. The last thing a priest needed was to be thought of as checking out people’s backsides.
