Chapter 10

Monday, Diana and Kim arrived at Dr. Philman’s office for their appointments. Kim saw the doctor first.

“Kim, my nurse tells me you are here about birth control pills.”

“Yes, I started back on the pill about four weeks ago with Dr. Peterman. He suffered a heart attack and will be out four to six weeks. I need to know if I have taken them long enough to be effective?”

“Your medical chart indicates that you had originally gotten off the pill because your husband had a vasectomy. So why take the pill?”

“We separated over three weeks ago after I caught him with his secretary, so I need birth control.”

“Are you in another relationship?” he asked just to be nosy.

“No, I just want the pill, so I am free to have sex without getting pregnant. How long will I have to take them before they are effective?”

“They are effective now,” he answered smiling mischievously.

“Good,” she replied as Dr. Philman handed her a refill prescription.

Next, he saw Diana. “Why on earth do you want to be tested for STD’s so often?” he asked.

“Dr. Philman, I have changed my lifestyle. To be blunt, I’m a whore. This week I’ll sleep with twelve men. I know it’s a bit reckless, but I crave it. Now will you write the orders for me to have lab work done every two weeks? You’ve treated me since I turned eighteen. I’ve always depended on you, Dr. Philman.”

“Okay, I’ll write the orders, but be careful. At least look for obvious physical signs of disease,” he said fantasizing the future escapades Diana and Kim planned to have.

After they left his office, Kim said, “Dr. Philman seemed judgmental today. Was he that way with you Diana?”

“The conversation was going in that direction, so I just told him I wanted to be tested so often because I’m a whore. You should have seen the old man’s face when I told him I’m sleeping with twelve men this week,” she chuckled.

When they arrived back at Diana’s, they ate a quick lunch. Afterwards, Diana got ready for Wayne. She came out into the living room wearing a short strapless white dress, white stockings, six-inch white stilettos, and a red G-string underneath. Kim stopped reading her magazine as they began retelling their stories from their sorority days. She became serious and quiet for a few minutes.

“Why did you choose to be a whore?”

“It certainly wasn’t something I planned. When I saw Eric having sex in our bed, I was devastated. I couldn’t sleep any that night. I didn’t think my marriage would survive beyond betrayal.” Pausing for a reflective moment, “My revenge sex was so much better than what I have had with Eric. I couldn’t settle for average sex with a man I couldn’t trust. I decided he would have to accept me as a whore if he wanted to stay married.”

“That’s what worries me,” said Kim. “I’m torn both ways. Do I risk his imperfect love?”

“That’s what I did. After his betrayal, he had to settle for sloppy seconds the first time I made love to him again.
