"We were on foot at the beginning of our journey from the coffer's hut near my keep." Balmung said.

About to take a sip, a jolt of shock almost made Iris drop her drinking horn.

"We were near your home?" Her home, she reminded herself. She knew it wasn't polite to interrupt their conversations, but she had to know. "Why didn't we just go there, instead of traveling all the way here?"

Leif's brow rose, as he waited for his brother to answer. Unfortunately, everyone else at the table seemed to be just as interested, as they quieted and turned to Balmung. Iris felt her cheeks heat, but she kept her gaze steady on Balmung and tried to block the rest.

"When we first -- came here -- I noticed, just before the horsemen came and we had to flee, that we were indeed near my home, but it was also clear that during my absence it had been taken over by raiders. They would not have taken my return kindly," he turned to Leif. "I will need to gather some men soon and see about removing them."

Leif nodded solemnly. "Aye, but we will need to wait until the spring when Father and his men return, so this keep is not left vulnerable in our absence"

Her heart pinched with compassion that his home had been overtaken, and that he could not see to taking it back right away. She frowned. "That means my home was overtaken, also."

Balmung smiled at her. "As my keep is your home in the future, aye, it was."
