Too soon, they were back at her house. Saying good-bye wouldn't be easy. Max pulled the Mercedes into Roxy's short driveway. He opened his door and walked around to her side. Her seatbelt undone, she gave Max her hand to help her up. Instead of turning and leading her up the steps, he pulled her close.

"Now," he said, "there aren't people watching us."

"Don't be so sure. Mrs. Adkins across the street likes to spy on me. She said it's for purely good-neighborly reasons, saying she's keeping an eye out for me so nothing bad will happen. But I think she's just nosy."

"Shall we give her something to watch?"

Roxy nodded. He was coming in for another kiss! She sighed and closed her eyes at the same moment. Turning her face toward Max, she waited for his lips to touch hers. When they did, a light shock went through her like a current of electricity. Instead of wrapping her arms around him, she tucked them in between their bodies, next to his chest. The smooth fabric of his jacket swished as she moved her hand.
