"So you didn't see him all day?" Callie, Bella's best friend from North Carolina, asked. Well, Callie used to live in North Carolina until she'd met her prince, literally, and moved to Litiana. Now Bella and Callie lived an ocean and a continent apart, but that didn't stop them from talking on the phone at least once a week.

Bella had left Art's castle a little before four and had come home in time to make some dinner (not even in the same ballpark as Marla's cooking), help with homework, and even play a game before Colby had to go to bed. To say her job was a dream was an understatement.

Abuela had left soon after Bella had come home to go to the senior center, so now Bella was curled up on the couch with a mug of tea talking to her best friend.

"And apparently I won't ever see him," Bella said with a sigh.

"Why do you sound unhappy about that? I thought you weren't looking for a relationship other than investor and investee. Him not wanting to see you sounds perfect for that," Callie teased.

"Right?" Bella asked. If it had been Abuela who had teased her, Bella would have fought back, but with Callie there was no use in repudiating anything because, in the end, she'd figure out the truth before Bella did. Abuela probably would have too, but she also would have rubbed it in Bella's face that she was right all along. So Bella had learned that with her abuela, it was always best to deny, deny, deny. Even when the outcome was exactly what Abuela had predicted.

"Do you think you can finally admit that because now there is no chance for anything to start?" Callie asked.

"Maybe?" Bella shrugged even though Callie couldn't see her. "I'm a mess."

"You aren't a mess. You aren't baggage free, but you aren't a mess," Callie insisted.

Bella sighed.

"What's the house like?" Callie asked, obviously changing the subject for Bella's sake.

"Gorgeous. Like it compares to the pictures you've sent me of your place," Bella said. "Okay, that's a slight exaggeration, but it's close."

"First, it's not my place. I live here with the king and queen, my husband, his many brothers, their wives, their kids and my kids. So even though it is palatial, pun intended, still the largest home can feel a bit tight with that many people around," Callie said, and Bella laughed. "And two, didn't you say he has a view of the ocean too? The guy must be loaded."

Bella nodded. "That's what I gather."

The conversation was veering back in Art's direction, and Callie seemed to notice at the same time.

"That picture you snapped of your latest pair of pants is truly incredible. Promise me you'll send me a pair as soon as you have more than what the mannequin is wearing. I'll pay full price, of course."

"Yeah you will, princess," Bella teased and then realized too much of the conversation had been focused on her.
