Rondo

The rondo form is common in popular music and is roughly like a verse-and-chorus structure. A phrase or small section A is repeated in between new sections B, C, D, and so on. The traditional rondo form has at least three verses and ends with the familiar A section, making the piece structure ABACADA. This could be expanded for as long as the choreographer wants.

Theme and Variations

As the title suggests, in theme and variation the choreographer develops a thematic phrase or movement material. The piece progresses by altering or varying the original phrase. This usually happens several times over the course of the dance so that the form looks like A, A1, A2, A3, A4, and so on. The choreographic devices involved in motif development could be a guide for developing these variations.
