It all comes down to Julian. Nothing will ever change until she solves the puzzle of him. And now through some miracle she has the means to do it.

After speaking to Grant, she’s convinced the time travel is real. The proof lay in how well his past and present responses matched. It was true they varied a bit, but she believes that’s because the situation wasn’t identical. Someone could ask her the same question three different times, and depending on her mood, she could phrase the answer in as many different ways. That was how it was for Grant: the same answer, slightly different phrasing.

Except there was the little matter of Marcia’s last name—Williams vs. Willis. It makes Cassie think he made her up. If she invented a name, she’d probably use different variations of it every time the subject arose, because there would be no real person to remember. Still, it was strange for him to lie about something so unimportant.

Back home, she takes out a notepad and pencil before settling into the comfortable recliner in the family room. Gio tries to climb onto her lap for some petting but she nudges him aside. Thinking over all she’s learned since the change began, she makes a list:
