Chapter Eight – Orion
Orion walked along the road. He hadn’t seen his alpha in days, and it bothered him. True to his word, Harrison had brought clothes, shoes, and money, but then he had disappeared and not returned. Being such a big man and hard to fit, Orion was surprised the clothes were just his size, and the boots fit his feet. While he walked, he looked down and wiggled his toes inside the dark brown leather. Over the last few years, he had been denied even a stitch of material to wear. Yet, he had not been allowed to shift either. In his human form, he had been vulnerable and naked, so the clothes felt constricting. He wore them because his alpha had given them to him, and it pleased Orion to know Harrison had studied his body enough to figure out his size.
Thinking about Harrison, Orion grinned. That night when he had fallen onto Harrison, he hadn’t meant to take it so far. Once he was on top of Harrison though the desire to mate with him overwhelmed Orion until he couldn’t see reason. One kiss and then two, tasting Harrison had been everything and more he had dreamed of. Now Orion couldn’t close his eyes without dreaming of Harrison and remembering how his body felt under him. Orion’s cock had gone so hard, he’d had to jerk off after Harrison left. He’d rubbed it through to release twice before he rested, both times calling out Harrison’s name.
One night was all he wanted, but if Harrison was with a woman—if he bit her to make her his mate, it would be too late for Orion. He tapped a hand against his thigh as he thought about his options. Perhaps if Harrison was stupid enough to bite her, Orion should kill the woman to free him again. Maybe he should kill the woman before Harrison had the chance to bite her. After all, she was only human. They didn’t count to his kind, being a subspecies. In the past when Harrison knew who he was, he had felt the same, even if he was always kind to humans. Kind like one would be to a pet.
Orion glanced up to find he neared the town. People walked along, some hurrying, others taking their time to reach their destinations. All kinds of scents met Orion’s nostrils. Well, they had before he left the cabin, but they were stronger now. Mixed into them was the scent of cooked food, and he raised a hand to his nose. Food he didn’t have to hunt for didn’t appeal to him. Many of his people and Noll’s ate food that was captured and prepared by someone else. Not all, of course, and Orion was among those who preferred to live as his animal dictated when it came to sustenance. Nothing beat the challenge and excitement of the hunt.
As he walked from dirt and grass to cement, Orion felt the hardness of the ground beneath his booted feet.
