My heart thuds like a twenty-person drum line is inside of it. Tonight I’ve felt more center. I’ve laughed more than I have in years. And I felt…loved. I don’t know what tomorrow will actually bring, or where I’ll want to be, but I do know that if he offers more, it’ll be a hard thing to turn down. And if he wants to take this slow, that might just kill me.

My body pulses like a beacon for his. And damn, who would’ve thought that the boy next door was packing enough manmeat to make most women a little afraid. But I’m not afraid of Zaen. As much as I thought of him a different way at the beginning of tonight, a new thought is in my head.

He’s attentive. He’s kind. He’s making me a priority tonight.

And I’m feeling a lot more than I probably should.

I’m not scared. I’m…cautious.

But when it comes to living, isn’t the phrase, “Throw caution to the wind”? And I’ve lived a life of caution, saving only to have it taken from me. And loving, only to be blindsided by what wasn’t really there.

“Adley, you’re kinda freakin’ me out now. Maybe we shouldn’t…”

“No, I’m tired of feeling like I shouldn’t. I’ve been told I shouldn’t do what I wanted to do by myself and by others and I listened. The only thing I want to listen to right now is us.”

“You know what today is, right?”

I look over at the clock on the DVD player. “Happy Valentine’s Day, Zaen.”

“Happy Valentine’s Day, Adley.”

And with that, I lean over and kiss him like tomorrow won’t happen. The last few weeks have shown me that sometimes it doesn’t happen. I want to live.

One of his hands feeds into my hair, the other slips into the back of my leggings, sliding the fabric down so his hand is cupping my ass.

“Damn…” he breaks our kiss with a heaving chest. “I’ve wanted to touch you for so long.”

“And as much as I thought this would be awkward or weird, it’s not. It’s so far from not that I’m wondering if I’ll never stop wanting to touch you, too.”

“That my dear is the best Valentine’s Day gift ever.”

With that he lifts me up, strong and sure and lays me onto the sofa. His hands lift my sweater and his fingers find the edge of my bra to pull it down. His lips softly pressing to my right nipple and then to the left, his shadow of light brown whiskers brushing my skin and heating every molecule he touches. He’s savoring me and I’m enjoying being savored.

“Just enjoy, sweetheart.” I barely recognize his voice as my head spins like a Tilt-O-Whirl from the local fair.

His lips suckle to a nipple and I arch my back, driving my chest into his mouth and he intensifies his attention. His other hand slips in the waistband of my leggings and slides in, fingers gliding along the soft, slickness. His body shivers and I know this is killing him, too.
