JANZ DIRECTED our attention to where the woman sped through the savannah. She dragged the boys who could hardly keep up. Moments later, after a flash, her body splattered into a bloody paste. White pieces of smoking bone pointed out. The boys swiped her hands off and grabbed each one another.

“Ya do realize it’ll take forever, one at a time.” Stern said.

Janz pointed at London, just as two more of those strange missiles dashed towards the city line. Six holes, the size of a train tunnel, ripped through over a dozen buildings, sending boulder-sized fragments everywhere. The crowd below fled in all directions as the severed tops rained down. Even with no sound, I heard their desperate screams and gripped the table.

“I’ve not seen such armament,” Jablonski said.

The following round targeted the street. This time, bodies flew everywhere. When the smoke cleared, it revealed stacks of broken people scattered over dust, stone, and glass that littered the footpaths.

“Further orders, sir?” It was Flannigan.

Janz stared at the two boys frozen on the screen. Pearly teethed, teary eyed, dark lips trembling. He stepped back slightly then turned as he sighed. It was then I took full notice of Janz. His stare had glassed over. “So pure, so innocent.”

“Sir?” Finnegan said.
