Sully followed the caravan but left at least a mile between us. Malphas and Echo flew above the vehicle. I watched as Malphas dipped low, coasting over the middle vehicle.

“It’s more than consent,” he said in my head.

“What do you mean?”

“They have already been together. She didn’t tell her betrothed. They are already swapping gravy in the car,” Malphas said.

I couldn’t help myself. I began to laugh despite the seriousness of the situation. Malphas’ raven voice in my head using Levi’s term for having sex struck me as odd and hilarious.

“What’s so funny?” Sully grumped.

“We can slow down. He’s already been with her before today. Malphas said they are doing it in the back of the car,” I said.

“Why is that funny?”

“Because he said they were swapping gravy,” I said.

Sully pulled the SUV over to the side of the road. “What?”

“It means having sex.”

“I get that.”

“Levi started it.”

“It’s ridiculous,” he said. “So, we aren’t saving the girl.”

“It seems we aren’t, but it doesn’t stop me from worrying about Tinley.”

“Why wouldn’t you worry about Lyra?”

“Really? That man couldn’t handle her.”

“You can’t either,” Sully pointed out.

“True. Let’s go back to Dog River. She needs to know what happened here. I’ll get Levi on finding out what he can about Sirius Nashoba.”

Sully turned the vehicle around, and we headed east toward Alabama. When he did, we almost ran over Malphas and Echo who stood in the middle of the road in human form. They climbed into the back of the vehicle.

“We are tired,” Malphas said.

“Okay,” I responded as I fished out my phone to call Levi. Of course, the voice that answered wasn’t Levi.

“Well, hello, you rogue bastard,” Grace said.

“My Queen,” I flattered her.

“You know I am going to jerk a knot in your tail for calling me that,” she smirked.

“As much as I’d love to talk to you and that smart mouth, I called to talk to Levi,” I said.

“Oh, so you’d rather talk to his smart mouth,” she said.

“I always knew he was a smart man. I don’t need to know what he does with it. I just need to talk to him,” I responded.

“Aren’t you precious? I suppose I can allow you to speak to the king. How’s the woman?” she asked.

“Don’t want to talk about that,” I said.

“Need help? I can give you pointers,” she said.

“Grace, I’m pretty sure that nothing you could say would help the situation.”

“Don’t underestimate my powers, Dominick Meyer,” she said. “How’s Sully?”

“Grace! Can I talk to Levi?”

“I’m fine,” Sully said. His wolf hearing was good enough to hear her even though she wasn’t on speaker phone.

“See! Was that so hard?”

“I swear to the tree there are too many difficult women in my life,” I said.

“Perhaps that is your problem, Nick. Some women enjoy the undivided attention of one man. Here’s Levi,” she said.

“And that’s your Grace wisdom of the day. Hey, what’s up?” Levi asked. I paused, allowing Grace’s words to sink in. Lyra probably thought I was going back to Steelshore. I’d even said I was, once we solved their problem.
