Jason

The police left ninety minutes later after determining I did not have a bomb in my home. It turns out someone had called to say I had planned to blow up my building the following Monday.

“Do you have any idea who would want to make us think you were planning a terrorist attack?” The police office stared at me, but it was Amanda who spoke.

“My ex. Logan Cartwright.” She sighed. “He showed up at my apartment earlier as Jason arrived to pick me up for our date. He probably called in the threat to try to ruin our evening.”

She dropped her face in her hands and I wanted to pull her into me and take all her troubles away. I had dressed her quickly in one of my shirts and a pair of my boxers to cover her as the police filed in. She was uncomfortable, folding her arms across her chest and hiding halfway behind me throughout the entire ordeal. I hated that all these men were in here staring at her, seeing her gorgeous thighs and getting a peek of her firm nipples. She had to be unsatisfied after getting me off without climaxing herself. I wanted to get these officers out of here so I could take her back to bed and finish what we started.

The officer frowned at her. “Has this man been bothering you for a while?”

I put my arm around her shoulders as she sucked in another breath. “He doesn’t know when to let go, but I always thought he was harmless.”

“It’s not harmless to call in a fake threat. If you think you need protection, call us.”

“She doesn’t need protection,” I growled. “He won’t be harassing her anymore.”

The officer nodded. “You two take care. Sorry for the inconvenience.”

I pulled her against me as the door closed behind the last of the officers. She buried her face in my shirt and started crying.

“I’m so sorry,” she sobbed. “I never imagined he’d do anything like this.”

I soothed her carefully, stroking her hair as she let out her emotion. “It’s not your fault, sweetheart. I know you didn’t want this.”

“I hate him so much. He was so awful while we were together, and now he’s trying to ruin my future.”

My heart swelled with anger. How dare he do this to her? What kind of person couldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer and leave a girl alone when she told him she wasn’t interested? Any man worth his salt would give her the space she needed. Calling in a bomb threat on her new boyfriend? Beyond unacceptable.

“He’s not going to bother you anymore, baby. I’ll make sure of it.”

“How can we be together if he’s going to act like this? He’ll ruin our careers!”

“Amanda, do you really think a loser like him can take down a leader like me?”

She shook her head, and the vise around my heart softened a little.

“I’ll take care of him, I promise. I don’t want you to worry about him anymore. You focus on taking care of you, okay?”

She sniffled and wiped away the last of her tears.
