The ketchup costume made it difficult to pee, but I finally figured it out after some awkward maneuvering and was back in the living room a couple minutes later. I didn’t see Jeremy or Abby, and I guessed Tarzan was answering some difficult questions about the bumps on his penis. I spotted Erin talking to a group of men: Frankenstein, a mummy, a doctor, and a vampire. She had another drink in her hand—number five or six—and was visibly swaying. No doubt all three men were vying to take Mustard home.

Fine by me.

On that note, I was ready to leave. Chuck was in the kitchen, chatting up some cute ladybug and I tapped him on the shoulder. “Hey, buddy, I’m out of here.”

He nodded. “Cool.” He was wasted.

“Thanks for the invite.”

“Sure thang.”

I was on my way to tell Erin that I was leaving—I had a feeling she would be staying—when I noticed Abby out on the patio. I fought my way through the packed living room, slid the patio door open, and stepped into the light dusting of snow. Abby was leaning over the balcony and I sidled up next to her. She turned and looked at me but said nothing. I asked, “You okay?”

“Fine.”

“Where’s Tarzan?”

She shook her head, “He went to his car to change.”

I laughed.

After an awkward moment, I said, “Well, I’m leaving and I just wanted to say good-bye.” She turned and gave me a hug. We separated and with a wave of the wand she said, “It-was-good-to-see-you-itus.”

I was thinking up a clever spell to throw back at her when the patio door slid open and out stepped Mustard. She stormed forward and wedged herself between me and Abby. She poked Abby in the chest and yelled, “Get off my man!”

Bloody hell.

Abby took a step backward and looked up at me as if to say, “This is yours?”

I shouted, “Erin! Chill out.”

But she did not chill out.

She started screaming and poking and pushing, and I had to physically drag her back inside. I was turning her around to yell at her when it happened. A loud crashing, followed by a deathly silence, then a whirlwind of screaming.

Ten bodies were sprawled out on the dance floor.

Ten Arrivals.
