As I finished speaking, I could feel the weight of their expectations bearing down upon me. But I had said what needed to be said, and now it was up to them to decide if they would walk this path with me. I stepped down from the bench, my mind already shifting to the next set of challenges. The crowd, however, had other ideas. People were pressing in, shouting questions and demands.

I needed to get away, to clear my head and think. This many people seeking my attention made me nervous. But as I turned to leave, a hand shot out and grabbed my arm. I spun around, ready to fight, only to see Luther smirking at me.

"Gonna be a tough road, Asher," he said, his southern accent worse than usual, his grip tightening. "But I’ll give you credit, you’ve got guts."

I jerked my arm away from him. "Don’t touch me."

He chuckled, his eyes gleaming with a malicious light, the same light I’d seen in the Facilitators and Keepers. "Oh, I think these new faces and I are going to be great friends."

I resisted the urge to punch him and instead turned on my heel and walked away, trying to ignore the stares of the other newcomers. My mind was racing, trying to come up with a plan for survival. Catherine was already overburdened, and I didn't want to add to her stress.

As I entered the Pod Barracks, I was struck by the quiet, almost eerie atmosphere. It was a sharp contrast to the chaos outside. The only sounds were the whirring of the machinery and the beeping of the pods. I made my way to my own pod, grateful for the solitude.

Inside, I took a deep breath, letting the tension seep out of my body. This was my chance to rest, to regroup. But as I closed my eyes, I could still hear the clamoring of the crowd outside. The pressure was mounting, and I knew that it was only a matter of time before something snapped. But for now, I would rest and prepare for whatever was to come next.
