The Package

I am a UPS driver and usually work the late shift. Today, however, I switched with a co-worker so that he could keep his doctor appointment. I woke up at the crack of dawn and rolled over to hit the snooze button on my alarm. It was way too early, but I had to get up and cover this shift for this man. I pulled myself together in enough time to get to work at exactly six a.m. I wasn’t my usual cheerful self, because like I said it was too early. I waited as my truck was loaded, got my address sheet and headed out. This was the start to a long day, I could already tell.

At my first stop, there was this annoying little dog that kept barking and growling at me the whole time his owner signed for his package. The owner looked like he was in his early sixties I would say, and I could tell from the wrapping on the package that it was something x-rated. I don’t know why these porn companies think they’re fooling people or protecting the privacy of their customers by wrapping things in a plain brown paper bag with no company name on it. I mean don’t get wrong, I wouldn’t want anyone to see that my package was from Big Dicks ‘R Us either, but then don’t name your company that in the first place.

I just shook my head as he scooped up his little dog and closed the door with this big grin on his face. I headed back to the truck and made about two more deliveries before I got to another plain brown paper bag package once again. Damn, what is this? Freak week? I climbed out of the truck eager to see who would be signing for this package. By the size, length and weight of the box I could tell it was a dildo. I’ve brought and used enough of them in my day to know.

As I approached the front door I noticed that the grass was very green and the flowers that were blooming were absolutely beautiful. I automatically assumed some single white lady with a green thumb would be opening the door. I rung the bell once and no one answered, twice still no answer. Normally I would leave the package in front of the door as long as the sender didn’t require that we get a signature, but I really wanted to see if my assumption was right. I wrong the bell once more, when I heard someone say they were coming. I stepped back some and got my stylus out so that she could sign for it, but when that front door swung open and I was face to face with my future wife I knew that I could not leave here with only her signature.

“Yes, can I help you?” she asked.

“Uh, yes. Ummm… I have a package for you,” I stumbled.

“A package? I didn’t order anything,” she stated with a raised eyebrow.
