Chapter Seven

After they returned to the house, Blake left to do some vineyard business and told Moon she could swim in the pool for a while and grab some sun.

The weather was warm and she was hot and sweaty from walking around the preserve, so she took him up on his offer and changed clothes, arriving outside to stare in awe at the crystal blue water of his in ground pool. There was a huge rock wall and waterfall cascading down over the smooth boulders into the pool, with a rather large hot tub built into the rounded corner near the rocks. Plenty of chairs were littered around the edges for sunbathing, including several tables with canopies to provide shade.

She laid her towel on a nearby lounge chair and dove into the deep end, the heated water still refreshing enough to invigorate her. She swam a few laps then flipped over onto her back, watching the blue sky, savoring the magnificent yet very strange day she’d had.

The wolves were a mystery, acting unlike any wild creature she’d ever seen or studied. They seemed tamed and domesticated. Had Blake lied to her about them being wild? And if so, for what reason?

He was more mysterious than the wolves, and she had yet to figure him out. An obvious millionaire, he seemed unaffected by the trappings of wealth. He didn’t have a house filled with servants, in fact had loaded the dishwasher himself after they’d eaten breakfast this morning. He drove a ten-year-old vehicle and dressed in jeans and T-shirts. He was out working in the vineyards, though he could no doubt easily afford an entire staff to run it for him while he sat back and reaped the profits.

Add the wolf preserve into the mix and that made for one very unfathomable man. One very sexy, mighty appealing, unfathomable man.

Maybe she was too caught up in the questions. After all, they were having a weekend fling, nothing more. Why delve into the myriad of questions about a man she had no intention of ever seeing socially again after this weekend?

Blake Hunter didn’t fit into her long-term goals. While she’d adored her parents, their lack of goals and nomadic lifestyle wasn’t what she was looking for. She remembered standing on street corners panhandling with them while busy executives brushed by them. She’d vowed then that she would work her ass off for her independence, never having to rely on anyone to take care of her or pay her way.

That meant years struggling, sacrificing, going to school and working at both the clinic and the BDSM club, but every success she’d had was due to her own hard work. Nowhere in her short-or long-term plans was there room for a man, a relationship, or falling in love.

Not that she was falling in love with Blake. She didn’t even know him that well. And the mysteries surrounding him were best left as mysterious. She’d enjoy his gracious hospitality this weekend, grateful to have been
