Whilst taking a short break at midday, Andrew returned a call from Karen. Abruptly she reminded him that they were invited out to dinner that evening at the home of their close friends Miriam and Bert Goldfine.

‘Shit, I totally forgot about it,’ Andrew muttered, expressing his frustration at an unwanted outing. His frustration was matched by her anger.

‘You forgot?’ Karen hissed.

It didn’t take a lot to annoy her lately, Andrew felt, immediately realising that it also didn’t take a lot to provoke himself, and the mix was becoming increasingly explosive. He quickly adjusted and reassured Karen that it wouldn’t be a problem, attempting to put out one more brush fire in their relationship. Together they decided that Andrew would keep his appointment with Dr Engel, then go home to shower and dress, before they set off for the Goldfines.
