Chapter Five

Aubrey raked her fingers through Tatum’s dark thick hair. He rested all sweaty on a fluffy unicorn pillow.

“What attracts so many shifters to Hollywood, anyway?” Aubrey asked, looking into his dark red eyes.

Tatum, totally spent, grunted his reply. “It’s nice sometimes to be the hero instead of being the monster...Shifters are the best actors, because we have to act normal all of the time.”

Aubrey thought it was a shame that shifters couldn’t reveal what they really were.

They both heard a noise, speeding closer from the kitchen.

“You expecting company?” Tatum snarled, curious to know what the ruckus was. He raised himself upright, narrowing his red eyes on the bedroom door.

Aubrey lived alone. And sometimes her neighbor came over to feed her cat, but she had no clue who this was...

Suddenly, the door swung open and Delaney stationed herself in the middle of the door frame.

“You cheating ass bastard!” she screeched, glowering at Tatum with pure rage in her eyes. She had a tabloid magazine clutched in her perfectly manicured hand. A picture of Aubrey and Tatum with the words SCANDAL!!! were splashed on the cover.

“You man stealing bitch!” she shrilled, staring down at Aubrey with daggers in her cat-like eyes.

Aubrey noticed dark black fur spreading all over Delaney’s smooth arms and legs.

“God, she’s a shifter too!” Aubrey yelled, holding onto Tatum’s bicep for dear life.

Tatum nodded. “She’s a werecat! They’re a testy bunch. Hide in the closet! Let me take care of this,” he growled, shuffling Aubrey in the closet and slamming the door shut.

“Did you really think I wouldn’t find out?!” Delaney hissed through her cat-fangs. “You alphas are all the same. This is the last friggin’ time I date a werebear...”

Tatum chuckled. “It’s over, Delaney. Stay far far away...”

Enraged, Delaney kicked the closet door to make sure Aubrey was listening. “He can make you feel like everything one day. And the next...he’ll make you feel like nothing. You’ll find out—just you wait,” she warned, before shooting Tatum a look and then trotted out of the door.

“You can come out now,” Tatum grunted, opening the closet.

Aubrey didn’t say anything only remembering Delaney’s last words.

Just you wait.

Even though, Tatum held Aubrey close to him she couldn’t shake the worry.
