Thane watched his Omega walk away. He wanted more than anything to chase after him, snatch him up and promise to never let him go. But right now, Fionn didn’t want him, didn’t want to be near him. So, with a heavy heart, he turned, walking deeper into the forest.

Chapter Fifteen

Three months later

“Feel the energy flow through you to your fingertips. Feel it gather there, in your hands. Sense the control you have, your bodies every movement under your command. Take a breath, and focusing on releasing it and the energy inside you.”

Fionn took a deep breath in and let it out slowly passed his lips. He had no energy to release, it was all locked inside him still, bound by the marks as a kindness to him. Every day he practiced for the time it was released. Then he’d need control. And with control, would come mastery.

He’d come to love the Coven. It was so unlike his Pack that at first, he’d felt his time there wasn’t real. So much calm, laughter, and sunshine. Except for the night of a full moon, when the whole Coven would gather together in the dark. There was no shouting, no fights, no one ever left a gathering beaten and bloody. People here were supportive of one another, competitive certainly, but not challenging, like every activity was a contest to best someone at. It began to feel more like home than home ever had and he’d begun to think he’d be happy to spend the rest of his life here. If it wasn’t for Thane.

The Alpha was often on his mind, both waking and sleeping. His scent seemed to follow Fionn, he’d wake to the ghostly touch of Thane’s hand on his skin or the Alpha’s deep voice rumbling in his ear.

Sometimes, he’d dream of his home, of being chased by his Pack or by the Wiccans who’d cursed him. Each and every time, he’d be saved by the huge brown bear, standing over him, putting himself between Fionn and his attackers, roaring until every last one of them had turned tail and fled. In his dreams, Thane was his constant protector, his champion. And his lover.

He’d grown to like those dreams. The Alpha’s hands on him, his mouth doing sinful things. In his dreams, Fionn would give himself freely and the Alpha bestowed just as much pleasure as he took, more even. More than once Fionn was embarrassed to find he’d come in his sleep. He wished there was someone he could talk to about it. About what the dreams meant, about why they persisted despite the distance between him and Thane. He was too embarrassed to broach the subject with Leona. He’d tried with Simon once but he hadn’t fully understood what Fionn was asking and Fionn had been reluctant to be too explicit. Wiccan and shifter magic was different. It drew strength from different aspects of life. Wiccan from the earth, from an ever-present life force. Shifters power came from something darker, more primitive, that spoke of a long fight for survival.
